Hair Care Tips To Help Prevent Or Reduce Hair Loss
If you're worried that your hair is starting to thin or just interested in taking better care of it to try to reduce the risk of losing it in the future, here are some tips that will help.
Something as simple and regular as combing can cause problems. Would you believe that you can comb your hair in the wrong way? Most of us do it so often that we don't really think about it, but we really should take more care. You should never back comb your hair because it damages the hair shaft. A plastic comb is a much better idea than a metal comb because they cause much less friction.
Another thing that many of us do that causes hair damage is dry our hair after washing with a towel. Vigorous rubbing with a towel is definitely to be avoided. Patting dry is much better for your hair.
Whilst on the subject of drying hair after washing, another way to be avoided is using a blow dryer. Well, to be exact, if you do use a blow dryer don't use it to completely dry your hair - stop with the hair still slightly wet.
It's a good idea to use the correct shampoo and conditioner for your hair type - it really can make a difference.
If you use hair dyes, be very careful. Improper use of hair dyes can lead to permanent hair damage. Plant-based dyes like henna are amongst the least damaging, but their color isn't as long-lasting as chemical dyes. But if you really want to look after your hair as well as color it, then having to dye it a little more frequently is probably a trade off that's worth it.
If you're a regular user of hot rollers, then maybe you should re-think. Because heated rollers apply heat directly to the hair, using them is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair.
The ultraviolet rays in direct sunlight can significantly dry out your hair so it's a good idea to cover your head if going out in the sun.
If you perm your hair then it is wise to exercise caution. Leaving perming solution on too long and perming too frequently can cause permanent hair damage.
Using rubber bands or similar in your hair is a bad idea because they put too much pressure on the hair shafts thereby weakening them.
Using hairspray is also not a good idea and you should refrain if at all possible.
Paying heed to the above will not guarantee that you will not lose your hair, there are after all other factors involved like genetics, but it clearly makes sense to take the best possible care of the hair you have got.
